Mukaruliza elected new Kigali mayor

{Mukaruliza Monique who was the first minister in charge of East African Community Affairs has been elected the new mayor City of Kigali, replacing Fidèle Ndayisaba who was recently appointed to head the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission.}

She has obtained 182 votes against her opponent, Regine Mukeshimana, who got 8 votes.

Elections started today morning at Nyamirambo stadium where 300 voters participated.

The Minister of local Government, Francis Kaboneka, also attended along with international observers and staff of Transparency International Rwanda.

Busangizwa Parfait became the vice mayor of Kigali city in charge of economic affairs and development; Kazayire Judith, vice mayor in charge of social welfare.
Dr Theobald Hategekimana pulled out his candidature and requested his supporters to vote for Mukaruliza Monique.

Maître Rutabingwa Athanase has been elected the president of Kigali City advisory committee, deputized by the director of Rwanda Education Board, Gasana while Gafaranga Brigitte was elected the secretary to the committee.
