MTN Rwanda boosts internet speeds with new 3.75G sites and 4G LTE internet

{MTN Rwanda today commercially launched the Fourth Generation Long Term Evolution (4G LTE) broadband internet as well as added 42 new 3.75G sites in Kigali, aimed at bringing even speedier service to its customers.}

Long Term Evolution technology (LTE) uses the most advanced telecommunications technologies and standards in the world with unparalleled speed, reliability, quality and ease of use. Popularly known as 4G, LTE is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data. 4G LTE Data Networks provide mobile ultra-broadband internet access.

Robert Rwakabogo, Senior Manager of Marketing Operations at MTN Rwanda, says the introduction of 4G LTE is another major milestone for MTN and in the development of the ICT sector in Rwanda.

“The things you can do with super-fast 4G LTE is limitless. The internet experience has become better, faster, easier, and more reliable with the introduction of this new technology. This will drive Rwandans to reach their full potential whilst simultaneously accelerating mobile broadband penetration, thereby boosting major economic activity.”

This new mobile communications technology not only permits considerably higher speeds but increased capacities such as superfast download and upload of files and seamless streaming of music videos and movies. More customers will be able to simultaneously transfer more data at higher speeds, a thing that is becoming increasingly important to customers.

Some of the 4G devices for sale are the LTE Modem that goes for 56,000Rwf, Wireless Router that goes for 60,000Rwf and the CPE for 80,000Rwf. Customers who buy Internet bundles for the first time will receive 100% bonus on the internet bundle they purchase as well as a free LTE SIM card.

Internet bundle rates will vary for users with 1GB going for 4,300Rwf for the low-end user, 10GB for 37,000Rwf for the mid-end user and 100GB (Unlimited) targeting SME’s and Corporates going for 345,000Rwf.

In addition to launching 4G, MTN Rwanda has also invested in 42 new 3.75G sites in Kigali, with 25 of them already on air and the remaining expected to be up by the end of November.

“This site expansion is a direct response to the yearnings of telecommunications consumers in Rwanda. We have deepened our network capacity and quality, while still providing affordable internet services targeted at boosting customers’ experience. MTN’s vision is to lead the delivery of a bold, new Digital World to our customers and we are embracing this vision by delivering world-class mobile broadband internet, voice and other digital services with the objective of making our customers’ lives a whole lot brighter,” added Rwakabogo.

With Rwanda’s mobile penetration currently at 71.6% and internet penetration at 25%, Rwanda targets to have 95 per cent of its citizens with access to fast and secure Internet by 2017.
