Based on the revision of the Land Law, Members of Parliament especially the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Environment started field works to generate citizens’ ideas toward the amendment of the existing land law.
Yesterday, the commission headed to Rubavu District and held a meeting on land consolidation, transfer of land rights and respect for gender equality in land ownership.
During the meeting it was noted that during land registration exercise, some land plots were given to the State because owners were not present during registration process.
Residents also complained that under land consolidation program, they fail to find market for their produce.
The commission noted that meetings will be held by both parties to address those problems.
Recently, Rwanda Minister of Natural Resources, Stanislas Kamanzi said government plans to amend the law governing land use in the country to ensure transparency in land use.
