{Over 450 commercial motorcyclists operating in Muhanga town in Muhanga District have vowed to fight all forms of crimes, with emphasis on drug abuse.}
The motorists who are organised in COTRAVEMOMU cooperative made the commitment during their meeting on March 31, and also attended by police officers.
Eric Nshimiyimana, the head of COTRAVEMOMU, said: “our colleagues in different regions have joined the anti-crime drive and indeed they are benefiting a lot from the initiative; we don’t want to be left out we also want to enjoy the fruits of operating in a safe and secure environment.”
He added: “We are currently progressing in our business because of the security we have but we can’t afford to sit back and enjoy the pleasures of safety, we have to work hard and ensure we preserve it too.”
To achieve this, he said, we must stand up against anyone who violates the law by working closely and in partnership with security organs.
Nshimiyimana appealed to members to always abide by traffic rules as a way of avoiding accidents resulting from reckless riding
During the meeting, the District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Clever Kayihura thanked the commercial motorcyclists for taking the lead in community policing.
IP Kayihura advised them to always report to the police any person who violates the law, including their defiant colleagues, who engage in crimes like drug related crimes.
