More than 5,000 Rwandans returned to the Homeland in 2014

According to statistics about 5679 Rwandans have successfully repatriated to Rwanda in 2014 after many years in exile.

Many Rwandans, who came back, left the country during and after the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis.

The statistics show that about 4342 repatriated Rwandans were received in Nkamira Refugee camp after several years living in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Others have entered the country through Nyagatare Refugee Camp in Rusizi district where 1219 Rwandans have passed temporarily before being relocated to their respective homes.

About 51 entered the country via the Kigali International Airport, Eight crossed to Rwanda through Gatuna Border while 14 others entered via the Rusumo Border side.

The month of May recorded 633 Rwandans which is the highest number of returnees comparing to the statistics of December 2014 where the number of returnees has slightly gone down.

As of August 2014, the number of returnees has declined due to many factors including the fact that many refugees from Kivu provinces have preferred to go to Congo based Kisangani camp which accommodate former FDLR fighters who have laid down their weapons and their Dependants.
