
The call was made yesterday during the celebration of World Food Day held in Busengo sector, Gakenke district in Northern Province.
During the celebration, Tony Nsanganira, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI) said that remarkable achievements including the increase of food have been realized.
However; he noted that a long milestone needs to be completed to reduce poverty and called upon Rwandans to increase efforts to boost the production. .
“Even though we have excellent achievements; it is time to gauge our performance since the agriculture sector needs to achieve more.”He said.
Nsanganira added that the development of agriculture goes in connection with the reduction of poverty to ensure sustainable progress of Rwandans.
Also commenting on previous measures Attaher Maiga, the representative of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), reiterated that the World is strengthening policies of maintaining durable development, population welfare and fighting against poverty as well.
He praised Rwanda for great steps made in realizing millennium development goals but pledged increased efforts to fight against malnutrition.
“Rwanda has political will and has attained remarkable achievements. However; many efforts are needed to overcome malnutrition for good.”
During the celebration of World Food Day, three cows have been donated in Gira Inka program.
It was concluded by the exhibition of agricultural products as well as recognition of excellent farmers in the fight against malnutrition.
