{The Minister of Internal Security, Musa Fazil Harerimana has assured parliament that the government is doing all that is possible to overcome extremism in close collaboration with the Muslim community. }
The minister gave the assurance as he presented budget estimates for the current financial year during which Honourable MP Constance Mukayuhi, an economist who chairs the Rwandan National Assembly’s Budget Commission sought an insight into the current situation of extremism and terrorism in Rwanda.
Responding to the question, the minister Fazil said that the matter is being handled.
He explained that there are gross misunderstandings of fundamentals of Islam by some people who have been brainwashed and misinformed while others that are promised haven end up being trafficked and sold as slaves.
He also explained that some people decline to present their identity cards to the police saying they had identifications at a time when they were Satan loyalists. Such individuals, he said, are arrested.
He said that some people are duped into terrorism acts, promised perfect world and hatred in which results into terrorism.
The minister noted that poverty is not the major cause of people engaging in terrorism acts since some children of rich people also join terrorism.
“The sustainable solution lies in collaborating with religious leaders.The Islam community has duties of teaching the true religion and correct wrong preaching,” he said.
MININTER has requested Rwandan community to stay close to their children and monitor their activities.
