{The Ministry of Defense (MOD) football, Basketball and Volleyball teams have emerged the best, by winning the 2016 Inter-Ministerial competition; an event that is annually organised by Rwanda Association for the Promotion of Sports among the Workforce (ARPST).}
The final games were played at Amahoro Stadium on 1 July 2016. MOD Volleyball team bit Ministry of Health team 3 sets to 1, while the MOD Football team won by default, as the Ministry of Agriculture Football team didn’t turn up for the final game. MOD Basketball team bit that of the Ministry of Disaster Management 54-51.
The Military side also excelled in athletics, whereby Pte Mizero Telesphore, Pte Ntigirinzigo J Paul and Pte Hakizimana Janvier won respectively gold, silver and bronze medals in 400m run. Pte Tuyishime Christophe and Pte Nkundumuremyi Celestin respectively won gold and silver medals in 1200m run.
Capt Vedaste Ntanteteri, Volleyball Team Captain, disclosed that the MOD teams victory was due to enough preparations and determination among the players, as well as encouragement from MOD leadership. “Our leaders have trained us to maintain Rwanda Defence Force values and be the winners”, he said.
Other Institutions that emerged the best include Rwanda National Resources Authority that won both Football and Basketball trophies, while WASAC won in Volleyball among Public Institutions. In the category of Private Institutions Bank of Kigali was champion both in Football and Basketball.
The APRST Vice President, Niyonshuti Johnson said that the tournament is annually organised to enhance friendship among different institutions (both public and private), and to promote the sport culture, required for a good health and fitness in general and at work in particular.
Senior Government Leaders present included the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services, Georges Rwigamba, the Vice Mayor Economic Affairs in Kigali City, Parfait Busabizwa and APRST Vice President Niyonshuti Johnson. The RDF was represented by Col G Kabagambe.
