Ministry of Defence Football Team win Labor Day Tournament

{{The Ministry of Defense (MOD) football team won the Labor Day cup after leading Inter-Ministerial competition in Labor Day tournament.

MOD was declared the winner with 9 out of 9 points ahead of Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugees Affairs (second), Ministry of Local Government (third ) and Ministry of Agriculture( fourth).}}

The Military side also excelled in athletic games where Sgt Gashagaza won the gold medal in 400, Pte Mugisha John and Pte Nsengiyaremye Janvier won respectively silver and bronze medals in 800 m run up.

In other disciplines, the MOD Basketball team won the second place after losing the final match to Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) on a score of 36-44 points.

The military Volley ball team became 3rd behind the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugees affairs as second and Ministry of Health that won the volleyball cup.

Among other teams that faired well in the tournament included Inyange Industries that won the football cup among private companies and Banque de Kigali ( BK) that won the basketball tournament.

Rwanda Social Security Board ( RSSB) became the winner of Female Basketball tournament among public institutions.

The prizes were presented to the winning institutions yesterday at Amahoro Stadium where different Government Officials and Workers watched the sports and socialised as a way of celebrating Labor Day.

Among the Senior Government Leaders present were the Minister of Public Service and Labor, Murekezi Anastase and the Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe.

In his speech, Minister Murekezi encouraged the public to love work emphasizing that any development comes as a result of hard work. Minister Murekezi said that the theme for Labor Day during this year in Rwanda is “Working for Self Reliance”.

He particularly encouraged the youth to work hard and take opportunities available to develop themselves and the country in general.

Minister Murekezi thanked all institutions that participated in Labor Day tournament and said that sports promote good health, discipline and friendship.

Labor Day tournament is annually organized by Rwanda Association of labor sports (ARST) and the Ministry of Public Service and Labor with the aim of enhancing friendship among different institutions both public and private, as well as encouraging individuals in a habit of doing sports to ensure health and fitness at work.
