Minister Lauds Youth on Embracing “Students on the Field”

{{On Sunday, March 17, 2013; “Students on the Field” week organised by the Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT) together with the Forum des Association Generale des Etudiants du Rwanda (FAGER) was concluded.}}

“Students on the Field” had been planned following the University and Higher Learning Institute Students’ Unions commitments made during the National YouthConnekt Convention concluded in December 2012.

FAGER President, Daniel Komezusenge said that Students on the Field this year has contributed in society; he noted that “University students in this week planted 7000 trees to prevent soil erosion, we dig 3.5 km of water tranches, we built 2 offices of cells, We provided housing support for 28 older and vulnerable people; also 128 goats and a cow were given to vulnerable people; in general all activities we did have a value of RwF 139,295,950.”

Minister Nsengimana told Youth to use their skills to contribute in the development of the society; “You are able to use your knowledge in the society, some who did law at the university can legally advise local residents on different issues, some who did agronomy can approach people in the society and advise them on modern techniques of farming…”

Minister Nsengimana tells Youth that in May this year there will be a Youth Month, told them to participate actively in this month.

Education Minister, Vincent Biruta told also Youth that Students on the Field week will be annual event; and urges them in contributing regularly in the society like carry ICT training as a solution to different issues.

This ceremony has been attended by representatives of all universities and Higher Learning Institute across Rwanda.

This week started on the 9th March and closed on the 16th March 2013 under the theme “One goal, One passion, Build our Future” where students are offering their support to community development, among others.
