A man suspected of stealing a motorcycle was arrested in Gasabo District on Wednesday.
Sibomana Damasecene allegedly stole the motorcycle, RC 283K TVS type belonging to Narcisse Habisnshuti, on Wednesday evening.
The motorcycle was apparently parked outside a shop in Kibaza cell, Kacyiru sector, where the victim had gone to buy some items.
The suspect was reported by people in the area who saw him taking the motorcycle.
Police said area residents played a vital role in the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the motorcycle, adding that they provided information in time.
This good cause should be maintained and strengthened, police said.
Under article 300, any person who commits theft without violence or threat shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties.
However, under article 301, if the theft was committed through fake keys, the maximum penalty under article 300 is doubled.
