Man Arrested For Killing Suspected Thief

{{Police has urged the general public to lodge their complaints to concerned authorities, to avoid being culprits due to their illegal actions}}.

The call follows the arrest of one Jean Bosco Bangamwabo, a resident of Rwaza cell in Save Sector in Gisagara District, who is accused of killing a man he suspected of stealing tomatoes.

Bangamwabo, on April 11, allegedly strangled Theophile Munyakayanza 33, to death after he found him in his tomato garden, apparently stealing his produce.

The bloody incident happened at about 1:30 am. Bangamwabo was at the time patrolling his garden to protect his produce from thieves.

He said that thieves had threatened his crops, alleging that he killed his neighbor in self defence.

Southern Region Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza condemned the act, adding that the suspect will be charged with murder for his illegal action.

Under article 140 of the Rwandan penal code, any person convicted of murder is sentenced to life in prison.

“There are concerned institutions to handle such cases, and people should trust them and report their complaints there, instead of taking justice into their own hands, which lands them into trouble,” CSP Gashagaza said.

He also advised the public to engage in income generating activities instead of resorting to criminal acts that at times result into death.

He called upon the community to strengthen their cooperation with security organs through timely information sharing in order to fight and prevent crimes.
