Man Arrested For Defrauding People

Thadee Munyembabazi, 36, was arrested on November 7 in Gicumbi District for defrauding people in different parts of the country.

Police says he was issuing bouncing cheques to different traders in various parts of the country and obtaining goods such as electronics and bicycle spare parts from them.

According to Police investigations, Munyembabazi on the day of his arrest, issued a Bank of Kigali cheque to one Vestine Mukasine, a business woman in Gicumbi, where he obtained bicycle spare parts and electronics valued at Frw38, 000.

He is also said to have exercised the same fraudulent act to several shop owners in Huye, Muhanga and Gicumbi districts and in Kigali where he obtained television sets and computers and amplifiers.

He is currently detained at Byumba Police Station.

The Northern Region Police Spokesperson, Supt Francis Gahima called upon the business community to be vigilant to verify cheques issued to them because “there are some people with ill intentions to defraud them through such methods.
