A renowned business tycoon and preacher Bishop Abraham Simama has cursed Nyasa Times correspondent in Lilongwe, Mundango Nyirenda, over a report he filed that he is sacrificing over K50 million to protect the arrested Rwandan genocide suspect Vincent Murekezi.
The story claimed that the man of God was the one paying Murekezi’s house rentals in area 49 where he was arrested by Malawi police on Thursday and that he has pledged to ‘buy justice” in the case to prevent extradition.
But Simama rejected the claims , saying it is “nonsense.”
“I am from Tanzania and live in Malawi for more than 35 years and not Rwanda,” he said.
He nonetheless cursed the correspondent for writing stories that turnish his image.
But the correspondent said it is absurd and careless of a christian faith for the Bishop to curse him, saying there is more dirt to be exposed.
Simama is a Tanzanian national who runs several businesses in Malawi among which he owns a hotel, a fleet of trucks and owns a church.
Malawi is believed to be hosting a lot of Rwandan genocide suspects as they took advantage of the porous borders and corrupt government officials and police who choose to receive bribes from these Rwandans and turn a blind eye.
Recently, the Rwandan government confirmed to the media that they have been in touch with the Malawi government since 2009 on some of the genocide suspects who sought refuge in the country to have them extradited.
