M23 rebel movement has introduced community work in most of the zones under their control in Eastern DRCongo.
This Saturday, M23 fighters were seen engaged in clearing roads with spades and hoes. Rocks and rubbish were removed from the roads.
Community work is commonly practiced in Rwanda.
Congolese government and the M23 rebels in Kampala, Uganda, signed a preliminary agreement in which both parties accepted responsibility for the failure of an earlier peace deal.
M23 is made up of hundreds of soldiers who deserted the Congolese army last April after accusing the government of failing to respect the terms of the 2009 peace deal, which incorporated them into the national army.
