M23 Appoints New President

The M23 rebel Movement has today appointed its new president following the sacking of Bishop Jean-Marie Runiga a few days ago.

Bertrand Bisiimwa was appointed today (Thursday) in Bunagana the base of M23 Leadership.

Mr Bisiimwa is not new to Eastern Congo Politics. He was formerly a member of CNDP and RCD Goma.

Before his appointment to the helm of M23, Bisiimwa was the Chief of Communications since the formation of M23 Movement.

Bisiimwa has no military background but has been active in the political wings of RCD-Goma, and CNDP(National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) movement that was led by renegade Gen. Laurent Nkunda later arrested.
