Local leaders on spot over Kabarore ‘sleeping’ street lights

{Gatsibo district leaders have apologized to Kabarore town residents over road lights which have been off for seven months and promised to resolve the matter before the month of January ends. }

Residents of Kabarore cell, Kabarore sector in Gatsibo district have told IGIHE that the lamps were installed on street poles but do not give off any light.

“These lamps were installed seven months ago which we welcomed but have never got lit,” said Nyiragakera Peruth.

The company, GV Kigali Capital Workshop and Real Line Entreprise, that was contracted and installed the lamps is said to have absconded and therefore breached the contract.

The Gatsibo district mayor, Gasana Richard, said that there was a technical hitch that has stalled the street lighting system.

“This is work should have been completed. The contracted company brought a transformer of low capacity compared to the one we requested him to install. At the time of handing over the project, technicians realized the shortfall and had to remove it. He told us that a suitable transformer is not available in Rwanda and so had to make an order from China. That is why street lights are not lit yet lit,” he explained.
