Nganiza Flaurien, 47,resident of Ishywa cell, Nkombo sector of Rusizi district was yesterday night struck dead by lightning at around 9:00 pm while fishing on lake Kivu.
The acting executive secretary of Nkombo sector , Ntigurirwa Jean Baptiste, has told IGIHE that lightning hit two people who were in the boat fishing during the night instantly killing one.
He explained that people were surprised for the lightning to strike when it was not raining heavily.
Ntigurirwa appealed residents on the island to avoid walking in rains and avoid the use of umbrella and other iron made materials to avoid lightning accidents.
In 2014 lightning killed two people at Nkombo Island.
