The incident took place yesterday around 2 pm in Rurenge cell.
The executive secretary of Remera sector, Mukamana Marceline has told IGIHE that lightning struck the man as it rained heavily.
“Lightning struck Habumuremyi yesterday around 2 pm while his wife identified as Mukandahindurwa Odeth has been taken to hospital. We are told that he is recovering,” she said.
She appealed on residents to be cautious against all activities putting them at lighting strike risks.
It is said that the man was struck as he collected water from pipes as it rained.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has recently announced that this year’s disasters took lives of 70 and injured 177 since January.
The ministry revealed that 30 lightning protection systems were installed in schools among other public places as part of efforts to prevent lightning.
