Some residents of Muhondo sector, Gakenke district have requested that President Paul Kagame be considered and decorated a hero in recognition of his excellent deeds that have spurred national development in many ways.
The call was made during National Heroes’ Day celebrations at district headquarters, where they advised that an assessment of his achievements be made and decorate him accordingly, since heroism can be bestowed upon the living and the dead.
“Basing on his achievements, he must have been named a hero long time ago. I would list him a hero if I had power to do so,” said one resident.
Talking to the media, Muhondo sector residents said they recently constructed 20 houes for vulnerable people, all during the monthly Umuganda, on land that was provided by President Kagame. They also say that people’s nutrition and general livelihoods have greatly improved since the introduction of the Girinka initiative also introduced by President Kagame.
The National Chancellery of Bravery and Decorations (CHENO) explained that heroism in Rwanda is realized through one’s deeds, their importance and the extent to which these deeds served as exemplary actions.
Heroism is also recognized through such values as patriotism, vigilance, devotion, self dignity, being exemplary, honesty, ,humanity and avoiding segregation among others.
Heroism can be recognized at different levels including; security maintenance, with emergence handling, economic growth, good governance, science and technology, peace and social welfare.
In Rwanda heroes are divided in three categories of Imanzi, Imena and Ingenzi.Imanzi category include heroes who have passed away while Ingenzi and Imena include both deceased and alive heroes.
