Kivu: Local Leaders preferred to play a role in the disarmament of FDLR

Local leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo have proposed to be involved in raising awareness to accelerate the disarmament and repatriation of Rwandan rebels.

This was desired Tuesday, January 6 by MP Juvenal Munobo Mubi of North Kivu.

The ultimatum of SADC and the ICGLR for voluntary disarmament of the rebels expired on 2 January.

The regional leaders will meet in mid-January to determine the action to be taken against the refractory disarmament.

The MP has expressed concern about the slow FDLR disarmament saying that “Like many Congolese who know the pitfalls of the FDLR, we are concerned that a military solution is hardly to be applied. Because we have already reached the milestone of the end of the deadline set for the voluntary surrender of the FDLR and therefore it is a subject of concern. ”

For the Congolese government, the military offensive has become “inevitable” after the expiry of that period. But the hunt for the rebels has not yet been officially launched.

Meanwhile, Juvenal Munubo Mubi wants the involvement of local leaders of North Kivu to resolve this issue:

“An important dimension is the involvement of local leaders, that is to say, the leaders, traditional leaders and all those who have influence in the community, who know the location of the FDLR. I believe that this involvement could help maximize results for raising awareness to lay down their arms in large numbers. ”
