Kind acts contribute to healing processes—Huye Kabutare patients

{Some patients and their caretakers at Huye District Hospital, Kabutare, have revealed that kind acts of valor extended to them through visits and providing basic support are some of the healing tools that have driven them into the road to recovery and giving them the sense of belonging. }

Patients demonstrated this mid last week as they marked international day of patients at Kabutare hospital.

Nadine Niyibaho, a mother with a 12 year old sick child at Kabutare hospital and has stayed for one year getting medical assistance, says all the little money she had got used up and has now been supported by kind-hearted members of the community. She said that the marking the international day of patients demonstrates how they are valued, which, in essence, builds their hope.

“Such kind acts of recognizing patients inspire us that we are not alone. I have been glad for the gospel we have received. It has strengthened my hope that life continues despite sicknesses,” said Nadine.

The director of Kabutare hospital, Dr. Theoneste Maniragaba, said that marking patients’ day draws patients from loneliness. He added that employees of the hospital get to assess their performance for improvement.

“This day is very important not only for patients but also for health care service providers since it is a good opportunity to gauge how we are fulfilling our duties and identify areas that require improvement,” he said.

The administration of Huye district reminded patients to be honest and avoid instances of leaving the hospital without paying debts they owe the hospital.
The international day of patients was first marked in 1992 launched by Pope John Paul II, in February every year. Some hospitals organize the event on different dates.
