Kigali to introduce car-free-day

{Kigali city officials have unveiled a plan of inaugurating Car Free Day after the previous initiative of setting a Car Free Zone where only pedestrians can pass.

The mayor of Kigali city, Fidèle Ndayisaba, said that the plan of launching Car Free Day will be executed in one month since it is a suitable program popular in other big cities.

The management of Kigali city has decided to restrict vehicles from using the road KN4 from Ecole Belge leading to M. Peace Plaza as a move to enhance passengers’ free movement to avoid congestion.

Ndayisaba said that Car Free Day is a benefiting long term program. “The program was not abrupt since we had planned before and included it in the design of how Kigali city must look like,” he said.

In a ‘Rwanda Today’ talk-show at KFM, Ndayisaba said that the Car Free Day will be added to the program of Car Free Zone.
