Kigali: Police arrests Church Leaders over Noise Pollution

{Rwanda National Police, On Sunday, has arrested three church leaders over Noise pollution after Religious based organizations operating within the City Of Kigali, on September 17, were advised on means to reduce noise pollution originating from these institutions.}

Among church leaders who were arrested are, the Deputy Head of Restoration Church, Two pastors, one from Anglican Church and another one from “Shining Light Church”.

Police also arrested several bar owners and DJs who were caught while making noises at their studios.

Last week, Rwanda’s Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana held dialogue with a massive number of over 500 religious leaders operating from the three districts of the city and told them that Freedom of worship, as provided in the national constitution, should not hinder public rights.

The meeting resolves that Noise that goes beyond religious organizations’ premises should stop with immediate effect and churches should also, install noise proof structures.

Church owners and representatives resolved that no organization will produce sound that go beyond its perimeters.
