Kigali: East African MPs Criticize Speaker as they voted to oust her

{Members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) have voted for none confident for their Speaker Marguerite Nantongo Zziwa after criticizing her for an authoritarian management of the affairs of the EALA and favoritism, IGIHE reports}

32 of the 34 members who participated in the plenary this Thursday, October 30 showed that they are not satisfied with the style of her leadership and suggest that she should be forced to resign from the presidency of EALA and be replaced by someone else.

Sources close to EALA told this website that the situation lasts for long time; and it has led to the resignation of four of the six members of the EALA parliamentary commissions.

This website has learned that on Thursday 5 of the 11 members of the commissioners of EALA Committee also decided to resign meaning that there should not be any other decision to be voted unless they elect new commissioners to replace them.

Misunderstandings seem profound to the point that a motion of censure will be launched against the Tanzanian MP Shy Rose Bhanji during the next plenary.

Rose Bhanji is accused to have made slandering comments against the presidents of Rwanda and Burundi that their countries are so small that they should not sit in the EAC (East African Community East).

The comment was made between October 7 to Oct 11during an EAC-European Union meeting.

Other censure motions were passed against MPs who allegedly insulted their peers.
