Kigali City Starts Hygiene Inspection Campaign

The city of Kigali has cautioned restaurants and bars and other public places on hygiene.

This follows an inspection conducted Wednesday aimed at assessing levels of Hygiene and cleanness of the City environs.

Waste management in hotels and restaurants was found to be a challenge threatening the general Hygiene and sanitation in the City.

During the Inspection left Right Vision Bar-Restaurant in Kimironko of Gasabo district was temporally closed and directed to comply with the rules established to ensure the hygiene in the city.

During the inspection other staff paid surprise visits to inspect various working places around the city.

Also “Garage Mironko” in Karambo cell of Gatenga sector in Kicukiro District was closed owing to poor hygiene.

The Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Affairs in Kigali City Alphonse Nizeyimana has said the sanitation and Hygienne campaign launched in December, 2012 will last three months.

The campaign will check the status of tarmac roads among other things.

Nzeyimana warned all people operating in the City to comply with rules regarding hygiene adding that if “you are given a plot to accommodate your business that does not mean you will no longer obey the hygiene rules.”

The campaign will also assess the way residents recycle the waste from households.
