Sources indicate that the 33-year-old man seriously beat his mother who later escaped him.
The mother alerted security officials, including the Police and the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) which inte3rvened to arrest the young man for the crime.
Rubagumya who is reported to be a drug addict, tried to resist the security forces, prompting the police officer to shot his thigh and injured him.
Rwanda National Police spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera, admitted to IGIHE that this young man was indeed shot and wounded.
“First, it is not acceptable to fight against the security forces, no matter what. Second, even if it happens, we will investigate to see if the police officer did not use protective force,” he noted.
The man is being treated at the Military Hospital in Kanombe.
