{Residents of Nyamirama sector in Kayonza district have lamented the local authority’s failure to remit rentals collected from their community farm-house where they used to carry out poultry farming. }
The house in question was constructed by Credit Project to support residents for goats and chicken rearing but was taken over by local leaders who hired it out to a church after the former project collapsed.
The church members, residents say, pay rent to local leaders of Musumba cell.
“The executive secretary of our cell rented out our house to people who made it a church. We want local authorities to hand us back our house and practice poultry again. We don’t know where the rent collected is diverted to,” said one resident.
The executive secretary of Musumba cell, Mwizerwa Marcel, however said that they have rented out the house to earn money to be used in connecting electricity to the cell’s office.
“We have rented out the house for two years to the church so that we can get money to connect electricity to the cell’s office,” he said.
The executive secretary of Nyamirama sector, Mukunzi Athanase promised to follow up the matter to recover the house currently used as a church and be used as a kindergarten school.
