Kabuye remanded over sedition

{The Primary court of Kacyiru, on March 17, remanded David Kabuye to prison for 30 days.}

During the hearing on Monday, prosecution accused Kabuye of inciting insurrection and defamation in public as stipulated under articles 463 and 288 of the penal code respectively.

Prosecutor Mathieu Gashayija said that the accused committed the alleged offences during the time he was in prison and even after his release.

The retired Captain is said to have insulted security guards shortly after his release from Kigali Central prison.

Prosecution further said that Kabuye, while in prison, joined hands with genocidaires and FDLR operatives inmates accusing the government of being responsible for the bodies that were recovered in Lake Rweru; supported retired Brig. Gen. Frank Rusagara, who’s case is under prosecution and backing the BBC’s “Rwanda: Untold Story”, a documentary on genocide denial.

Based on the charges and evidence provided by prosecution, the presiding judge overruled Kabuye’s plea for bail on grounds that the charges are “serious.”

The judge maintained that there is strong evidence based on “serious grounds for suspecting that he committed the offenses,” thus remanded him to 30 days in prison.
