He and another convict Sam Mugisha who was serving three years and a half sentence for rape were reported to have escaped yesterday early morning by Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).
“Rape convict Tuyishimire Alphonse reported for escaping Nyagatare Juvenile Prison after one day is now re-arrested and he will be prosecuted. Still hunting Mugisha Sam. Thanks to the residents of Gitoki sector, Gatsibo district who shared this security information,” said RCS in a tweet.
It is the first time children escape this prison.
Rwanda’s penal code stipulates that an escaping convicted inmate gets a doubled jail term of the remaining sentence.
