Journalists complete Itorero, set 17 goals by end 2016

{Members of the media fraternity have been tipped to be critical of people that cower away from their responsibilities, give credit to high-fly performers, expose corruption in all its forms and share institutional achievements and best practices with their audiences. }

The call was made yesterday by the Minister of Local Government Francis Kaboneka during the closing ceremony of the first edition of journalists’ National Itorero that was held in Nkumba, Burera district.

At the ceremony journalists trained in the edition of National Itorero called “Impamyabigwi’ demonstrated how ready they are to achieve promises they have vowed to meet.

Kaboneka requested journalists to partner with Rwandans to strengthen measures of tackling corruption through exposing culprits.

“I want you to engage in the struggle of fighting public fund misappropriations. I beseech you to support all efforts meant to uproot corruption,” he said.

He also appealed on “Impamyabigwi” journalists to become exemplary avoiding corruption since Transparency International Rwanda has recently listed media among sectors where corruption still lingers.

Mbanda Gerald, Head of Media and Communication at Rwanda Governance Board, (RGB) said that fighting corruption is one of the 17 promises journalists under the National Itorero edition of ‘Impamyabigwi’ have pledged to have attained by the end of 2016.

Journalists will launch an institution called “Agaciro Media Academy” expected to help Rwanda and other African countries to train in journalism courses to up their performance.

As an effort to seek own solutions, journalists will establish “Impamyabigwi Development Fund.” The source of cash to be kept in the fund will be discussed in the near future.
Mbanda says that “Agaciro Media Group” will be established as an international medium to facilitate the collaboration of journalists.

Rucagu Boniface, the chairperson of the National Itorero Commission said that the commission will keep following up the implementation of Impamyabigwi Promises.
Journalists have been requested to demonstrate a good show of performance and promised free training in language skills and cultural promotion.
