HVP Gatagara was the first centre for the care, education and reintegration of the handicapped people in Rwanda.
The mattresses were handed over on Wednesday 20th October 2021 as Israel Ambassador to Rwanda, Dr. Ron Adam visited the hospital.
The mattresses will be used by patients in recovery rooms.
Kizito Misago, the Director General of HVP Gatagara has said that the donation came in handy to address some of problems the hospital has been facing.
“The hospital’s wards have been extended but we had a gap of 50 mattresses. Due to the insufficiency, two patients would sometimes share one bed or have their appointment rescheduled. That is why the mattresses are very helpful to improve service delivery,” he said.
Yvonne Mukasekuru, one of patients at the hospital expressed delight for the donation highlighting that they will sleep comfortably as they receive treatment.
Ambassador, Dr. Ron reiterated his country’s commitment to continue supporting the hospital to improve health services for differently abled persons.
“Persons living with disabilities deserve special attention and should enjoy equal rights. That is why we decided to provide the support. We remain committed to partner with Rwanda and this hospital to improve health services,” he said.
HVP Gatagara attends to more than 6000 differently abled persons per annum.
