{Rwanda is for the first time hosting the African Union Summit expected to highlight Africa’s program of seeking own solutions, Agenda 2063, prioritizing integration, easing free movement and promoting women’ rights as one of the pillars for sustainable development.}
The 27th AU Summit which kicked off yesterday was preceded by the 32nd summit of permanent representatives committee for the African Union, comprised of ambassadors of the 54 member states and AU officials.
The AU summit which subsequently started yesterday will be concluded on July 18th, 2016.
The chairperson of AU Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma requested collaboration between all countries to realize the vision 2063 which needs to be supported at different levels in Africa.
The vision 2063 is the concept of Africans to attain development without waiting for donations. It was confirmed in the 24th AU summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2015.
Zuma stressed the need for collaboration between all countries to realize the set target of vision 2063.
“We have to keep envisaging such good plans and build a united Africa working together, safe, productive and strong continent,” she said.
She highlighted benefits of unity among Africans.
“If only many countries signed Arusha agreements regarding easing university education as did East Africa, we would offer many opportunities for African youth to attend university wherever they want and get employed anywhere they want on the African continent,” she said.
It is expected that a common Africa passport will be launched during Summit which is among the programs initiated to ease free movement of people, merchandise, services and joining efforts transforming lives of Africans in the next 50 years.
Zuma explained that commerce, agriculture, entrepreneurs and investments in creating innovations, trade cooperation and building original African institutions would become a reality if Africa maintains such momentum.
She stressed the attained benefits of cooperation including peace recovery in some war tone zones, mutual support and striving for good elections process enhancing democracy.
The ambassador representing Chad in African Union, Cherif Mahamat Zene lauded the Rwandan government hospitality describing it as a good reflection of the Rwandan spirit.
He explained that Rwanda’s current progress in unity and reconciliation, peace, recovery, fighting corruption and attained development despite dark past makes Rwanda a good example for the rest of Africa.
