India joins Rwanda in 22nd commemoration

{‘Never Again to Genocide’ has dominated speeches of representatives of different countries in India who joined Rwandan embassy there to commemorate the 22nd genocide perpetrated against Tutsi.}

Rwandans living in New Delhi, India’s capital, diplomats and various officials of Indian government and Rwandan friends yesterday gathered at the headquarter of United Nations Information Center for India and Bhutan, joining Rwandans for the 22nd commemoration of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.

The remembrance ceremony was preceded by prayers presided over by Monsignor Mauro Lalli who is also the advisor of Pope’s envoy in India. This bishop also lit a torch of hope.

Bishop Mauro prayed for Rwanda and interceded for President Paul Kagame to continue leading the economic development and social welfare of Rwandans.

In his remarks, the Rwandan ambassador in India, Ernest Rwamucyo emphasized the role of international community towards fighting genocide and its ideology.

“During this 22nd commemoration of genocide perpetrated against Tutsi, Rwanda encourages Rwandans and international community to be active in fighting genocide ideology since genocide perpetrators and their supporters continue to deny and misinterpret the truth of what happened,” he said.

The advisor in the ministry of Indian foreign affairs, S. Balachandara; Tanzanian ambassador in India, AlemTsehaye Woldemariam, Eritrean ambassador and the ambassador of Dominican Republic , Hans Dennberg Castellanos are among diplomats that attended commemoration activities.
