Imbuto Foundation Schedules Reading Day Campaign in Nyanza & Rubavu

{{Imbuto Foundation will carry out its Reading Day Campaign on September 25th in Nyanza district and on October 2nd in Rubavu district. }}

For this year’s campaign, Imbuto Foundation is partnering with Rwanda Library Services under the theme ‘Reading Week Festival’.

This year Imbuto Foundation is targeting 600 primary school children and 300 parents as the key audience in raising awareness on reading.

So far, Imbuto has held 8 reading day events and conducted 3 reading competitions.

The Reading Day Campaign aims to encourage children to explore the pleasure of reading and writing, as well as showcase learning as an active process where children should take the lead in engaging with reading materials.

It is a social mobilization campaign also meant to raise awareness among teachers and parents on the importance of reading and equip them with knowledge and skills on how to cultivate the love of reading and writing in young students.

‘Reading Day’ is conducted in parallel with Rwanda Reads! Campaign led by the Ministry of Education.

The latter is a national campaign consisting of a partnership between local and international organizations working together to promote reading and writing for personal learning and enjoyment.

It further strives to increase access to reading materials by availing more books through schools, libraries and bookstores.

Specific objectives of the Reading Day Campaign include; promoting reading culture amongst primary school children at school and at home and Raising awareness among educators and parents on the importance of reading and how to help children to develop skills and an interest in reading and writing.

This is achieved through the use of media and promotional channels including partnerships.
