IGP Gasana urges policing agents on partnership in crime

{The Inspector General of Rwanda National Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana has challenged the youth to strengthen their effort in building their nation that is free from any sort of crime.}

The Police Chief was speaking on December 11 at the official opening of a three-day retreat of 84 members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Crime Prevention (RYVCP) and District Community Liaison Officers (DCLOs) that started at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru.

The retreat is aimed at strengthening the partnership between the youth volunteers and the community liaison officers in fighting and preventing crimes.

“The effort you impose on building your country and making it crime-free determines your future and that of your generation,” IGP Gasana said.

He urged them to be guided by discipline, team work and be peers in building safer and secure societies.

During the retreat, participants will receive lectures from experts and heads of institutions.

They will look at the role of youth in good governance and nation building, community policing, and role of youth volunteers in enhancing democracy and stability.

Bishop John Rucyahana, President of National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), while lecturing the youth volunteers and the liaison officers on ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’ programme, said the idea was conceived to build the patriotism, culture and values of Rwandans in the transformation process.

Fred Mufuruki, the Director General of Territorial l Administration and Governance at the Ministry of Local Government, also lectured the youth on their role in good governance.

He noted that Rwanda’s achievements in the last 21 years were possible because of good and focused leadership, which the youth should learn from and build on.
