ICTR Holds Workshop On Prosecutions For Sexual Violence

The event will take place From November 26 to 28 in Kigali.

“The ICTR intends to share its experience with other jurisdictions, national or international,” according to a statement from the court.

“More than half of the 93 people indicted by the ICTR have been accused of crimes of sexual violence,” says the court, adding that the prosecutor Hassan Jallow “has produced two draft manuals of best practices for prosecuting these crimes.”

Nearly one hundred representatives of international tribunals and national courts discuss the recommendations of these manuals, the statement said.

The ICTR was established to try those most responsible for the genocide of Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994.
