{The District Police Commander of Huye, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Francis Muheto, has appealed to residents to heed government calls to implement laid strategies meant to prevent and fight malaria.}
CSP Muheto made the call while appearing on a live talk-show on Huye community radio on February 11.
The talk show, which was in line with the ongoing Rwanda National Police (RNP) awareness campaign against malaria, which has been incorporated in the force’s human security and other outreach programmes.
“Malaria, is one of killer diseases, and that is insecurity if not checked; the good thing is that the government understands this and it has put in place effective measures to prevent it and now it goes down to the beneficiaries… it is the people themselves to effectively implement these initiatives to kick malaria out of Rwanda,” said CSP Muheto.
“It is one thing to sleep in treated mosquito nets, which of course every household member should have, but again it is important to do away with the mosquito breeding ground in the neighbourhoods like bushes and ponds because these mosquitoes might not bite when you are sleeping but you won’t seat in a mosquito net when you are in a living-room, kitchen or even in the compound,” he added.
He further appealed to families to always close doors and windows early, noting that mosquitoes invade houses especially when it starts to get dark.
He also took time to urge the residents to partner with security organs and local leaders to ensure safety and security in their communities which desisting, fighting and preventing crimes through timely information sharing.
