Hundreds in Protest March Against ICTR Aquittals

{{Hundreds of Rwandans on Monday marched in protest against ICTR decision to acquit two former Rwanda cabinet ministers accused of masterminding Rwanda’s 1994 genocide.}}

The two ministers are Mugenzi Justin and Mugiraneza Prosper.

Mugenzi was a minister of commerce while Mugiraneza was the minister of public service during genocide time.

Protestors marched to offices of the United Nations tribunal set up to try Genocide cases.

The protest march was organized by the Rwanda Association of Genocide Survivors IBUKA.

Protestors carried placards accusing the tribunal of denying justice to genocide victims.

“The international community failed in their response to protect the Tutsi from being killed and now it is failing to provide justice to survivors,” one of the banners read.

The president of the IBUKA, Jean Pierre Dusingizemungu has said ICTR should stop disrespecting survivors of genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi.

“IBUKA stands against any judge who disrespects the survivors,” He said.

Last week, Rwanda’s top prosecutor expressed dismay over the acquittals.
