Hotel Owners Say Noise Pollution Law Prohibiting Business

After Kigali City has embarked on strategies to curb noise pollution among Hotels, restaurants and other public places; the representatives of the Federation of Hotels and Restaurants said the law will thwart the interests of hoteliers and restaurants owners.

“Yes, we must respect the law that protects interests of citizens, but the authorities should see that some of their decisions discourage trade. Indeed, musical entertainments are those that attract customers, “said Denis Karera, President of the National Federation of Hoteliers and restaurants.

Side of the National Police, the emphasis should be on the tranquility of the citizens.

The law prohibiting noise pollution provides; any person unable to mount a good sound of his musical instruments in his business to the point that the sound does not disturb his neighbors, is liable to a fine of Rwf 100,000 (approx. US$ 160).
