Hope Academy Rwanda students qualify for international competitions

Students at Hope Academy Rwanda have qualified for International Olympiads all over the world. Having beaten off stiff competition, students will be going to Infomatrix (Romania), Golden Climate (Kenya) and Genius (USA).

Infomatrix seeks to facilitate intercultural dialogue while through encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion, and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world today. The finals will take place in Bucharest in May 2015. Last year, Hope Academy Rwanda students achieved a silver medal in Infomatrix among 288 schools from 43 countries, 1515 different projects by 3719 participants.

Golden Climate calls itself the International Environmental Project Olympiad. It aims to raise environmental awareness among students while inspiring them to develop environmental projects which can be used in all parts of life. The award ceremony will take place in Mombasa in May 2015. Our students returned home with a bronze medal from Golden Climate last year. 26 countries were represented in the event with 117 projects by 257 participants.

Genius Olympiad seeks to promote a global understanding of environmental issues and the achievement of sustainability through basic science, arts, creative writing, engineering, design, and business development. Hope Academy Rwanda students have succeeded in being selected for the Creative Writing and Music categories. The finals will take place in Oswego, NY, in June 2015.

It is our first time taking part in GENIUS. The previous year, GENIUS received 842 projects from 57 countries and 36 US states. The categories vary, including but not limited to Science, Art, Creative Writing, Design and Music. This year, there is also a new category: “Business”.

Everyone at Hope Academy Rwanda is excited by the opportunities our students are given by these results, opportunities no other school in Rwanda gives their students. We are waiting with eager expectation for the results of the finals in the coming months.
