Homeless Genocide Survivors in Bugesera Need Houses

Homeless Genocide survivors in Bugesera district have sought urgent assistance from district authorities to find them accomodation.

However, the district says the problem will soon be resolved through the support from the community work commonly known as “Umuganda” and some money from the District budget allocated to building homes for Genocide survivors.

This was revealed during a meeting organized by Ibuka together and Bugesera district.

Though survivors are facing different problems, the most challenging is that some are homeless, houses that were built but not completed and some houses are old.

In 2012, Bugesera District built 96 houses with the budget of Rwf 300 Million. In 2013 the district construct 70 new houses estimated to cost of Frw 270 Million.

However, an extra 54 houses are needed and more than 476 houses need to be renovated.
