Heavy rains leave 12 dead, 96 houses destroyed

{A total of 12 people have died as a result of heavy rains of Saturday night, 19 people injured and 196 houses were ravaged across different parts of the country.}

The Ministry of Refugees and Disaster Management (MDIMAR) says the affected areas include Nyarugenge, Gasabo, Karongi and Rutsiro districts.

Nyarugenge district is said to have been severely affected where nine people died of floods with 85 houses destroyed in various sectors of Kimisagara and Kigali.

The Director of Disaster Response and Recovery in MIDIMAR, Mr. Philippe Habinshuti said that they have helped bereaved families to bury deceased members, helping injured individuals and seeking accommodation for residents whose houses are destroyed.

Roads were also among the infrastructures that were ravaged.

MIDIMAR has requested people who are in houses that are in dampness to vacate them and avoid putting their lives in danger.

Motorists are also asked to be vigilant while using roads affected by potholes that have collected water.
