Heavy Rains Kill 37 in Four Months

{{Rwanda’s Minister of Disaster and Refugees Affairs Seraphine Mukantabana has announced that within four months, heavy rains have claimed lives of thirty-seven and caused extensive damages.}}

“There were also 45 injured, 1,615 houses destroyed, ” she said adding that 668 hectares of rice, maize, beans and bananas were destroyed.

Eleven power poles fell, 13 classrooms and six churches destroyed, 123 toilets have also been destroyed and many damaged, including bridges.

According to Minister of Natural Resources, Stanislas Kamanzi, Heavy rains are related to climate change.

The Minister recalled that Rwanda has decided to move people resident in critical zones to safer places to avoid future loss of lives as well as damages.
