The government of Rwanda has paid Rwf 13.5 billion for mutuelle de santé arrears it owed health centers across the country.The payment was made through Rwanda Social Security Board, an institution which in July 2015 took over the management of mituelle to purge the mismanagement and misappropriation by local leaders.
RSSB official in charge of Mutuelle de Santé department, Florence Muziganyi said the government has been paying the arrears to health centers since 1st July 2015.
“RSSB has not accumulated any debts since it started managing mutuelle de santé contributions. We pay on time to all institution that fulfill the requirements. The government has, through RSSB, paid all the debts it owed to health institutions. Arrears were paid on March 4th 2016,”she said.
Muziganyi reassured mutuelle de santé subscribers of continued improvement in the delivery of services.
The government has paid arrears to 49 hospitals across the country and RSSB has continued to remind Rwandans the importance of paying mutuelle de santé. The national average of mutuelle de santé contributions stands at 80%.
