Various churches operating in Kimisagara sector in collaboration with local administration, have organized a gospel crusade meant to usher in a wave of social transformation among residents especially the youth in holidays, delivering them from the drug bondage.
The sector, it has been acknowledged by local leaders, has turned into a den of drug dealers, addicts and the attendant ill-behaviours, perpetuated, especially, by khat/miraa (mayirungi), marijuana and illicit brews which have, by extension, got to neighbouring sectors of Gitega, Muhima and Nyabugogo.
Local leaders of Kimisagara sector have revealed that the gospel is to be used as a moral rehabilitation weapon to bring into a good path the current drug dealers and abusers.
Talking to IGIHE, Ruzima Serge, the executive secretary of Kimisagara sector revealed that; “gospel preaching was organized as an effort to mobilize residents to end the consumption of drugs including illicit brews since they fuel addiction, violence and family break-ups.”
Apostle David Kubwimana, the leader of churches in the sector argues that gospel preaching can be a channel of salvation to spiritually transform Kimisagara residents.
“We are conveying different messages through the Bible to youth in holidays to avoid drugs consumption and request parents to familiarize their children with good behaviours,” he said.
