Niwemfura Aquiline, the executive secretary of Gender Monitoring Office (GMO) in Rwanda has passed away according to information obtained from the GMO twitter account.
Niwemfura died of natural causes on Tuesday 16th February 2016. She was 64.
Niwemfura was appointed the executive secretary of GMO on 25th March, 2009, before which she was the executive secretary of Beijing Secretarial from 2000 to 2009.
Beijing Secretariat was mandated with following up the implementation of Beijing protocol of 1995 regarding gender equality. Later, duties of Beijing secretariat were left under stewardship of Gender Monitoring Office in Rwanda.
