The incident happened on Wednesday 14th December 2022.
Her death has been confirmed to IGIHE by the civil registrar of Nyankenke Sector, Emmanuel Makombe.
“It is true that she has passed away. We extend our condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.
Makombe disclosed that officials had prohibited residents from exploiting the sandpit lest it exposes them to fatal accidents.
The sandpit also collapsed on a young man aged 20 who was taken to Kisaro Health Center for medical attention.
He was injured trying to rescue Mukurijimana. The deceased’s body was retrieved on the same day around 21h: 00.
