According to residents of Gicumbi District, all RPF-Inkotanyi soldiers are heroes as they have done significant job in liberating Rwanda and continue to sustain the wellbeing of Rwandans.
The remark was made during the celebrations to mark Heroes Day on 1st February, 2013.
Sekaryongo Jean Marie who spoke on behalf of Gicumbi residents said that forces of Rwanda Patriotic Front saved thousands of lives in Gicumbi adding that the Army protected them from Militia attacks and that citizens are engaged in development activities.
Mvuyekure Alexandre, the Mayor of Gicumbi District explained that ceremonies to mark Heroes Day in Gicumbi District which borders Uganda took place in the village of Karambo of Gishambashayo Cell due to the fact that the area is where RPF forces first camped during the beginning of liberation war.
During the event Capt.Sam Gahigi who represented the army confirmed that what residents of Gicumbi said is true adding that RPF has a long History in Gicumbi District.
The National Liberation Struggle Museum will be built at Mulindi in Gicumbi district.
Gicumbi residents confirmed that they were the first people who met RPF soldiers as they were planning to liberate Rwanda from the dictatorship.
