{After the arrest of several illegal drugs in Gicumbi district, officials decided to introduce a new system of fighting against drugs.

Some of the drugs including 3000 litres of crude waragi (kanyanga), and 400 packets of chief waragi were held and poured in front of the public, while suspects were tried in front of public.
Talking to IGIHE, Nsengimana Azarias the prosecutor of Gicumbi and Rulindo, it’s not common for the court to trying such convicts in front of public.
However, nine convicts of drug allegations were tried in front of the public in order to eliminate and fight against drugs.
According to Sindayigaya Eduard, the head of security in Gicumbi district, “this system will support Gicumbi district to make people support and also understand the crimes against the law”.
However, this will be done through interaction between local security officials and the inhabitants of Gicumbi district through information.
Some of the conclusions from the officials include, 3-5 years in prison and 500,000 Rwandan francs fine, which will be charged to anyone who will be found guilty of doing drug practice.
According to district statistics 10 are from cyumba sector, kaniga, rubaya, mukarange and Nyankenke in Gicumbi district.
According to information on the ground 8 people were sentenced to 1 year in prison followed by a fine of 100,000 Rwandan francs, while another convict was sentenced to 2-years in prison.
